For My Tiger

By Lira

There's a kitty I love
Who lives far away
Soft fur
Soft words
And a broken heart
All overflowing love
Don't ask me how I know
Lately
Remembering isn't as easy as it was
But my kitty
He knows
And all the little things that were
Too good to be true
Are.
There aren't many who can say
They call a tiger kitty
But the kitty I love
Who lives far away
Lays on his back and purrs
And I tickle
And snuggle
And my chalice of tears
Is a chalice of wonder
When I dream with him
His fur smells like rain
His tongue rasps gently
Across my cheek
He doesn't mind when a feather
Pulls free; and I sing
Long distance without phones
The kitty I love
Who lives far away
Stays up far past his bedtime
I call him beloved
And do not miss a space
When he remembers how to yawn
I remember my heartbeats
That fit to the space of his breathing beside me
~For my tiger~
